Top 10 Power Platform & Power Apps Consulting Companies in the USA (2026)

By Nichole McKinneyUpdated October 12, 202631-minute read10 firms compared

Microsoft Power Platform — Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Power Pages, Power BI and Copilot Studio — has quietly become the fastest way for a mid-market organization to replace spreadsheets, paper forms and email approvals with real applications. The hard part is finding a partner who builds apps that survive contact with actual users. Here are the ten Power Platform and Power Apps consulting companies in the USA we would shortlist in 2026, and why Power BI Consulting Services (BICS) leads the list.

NM
Nichole McKinney — Founder & CEO, Power BI Consulting Services (BICS)
Nichole McKinney founded BI Consulting Services in 2018 and has led Power BI, Power Platform, Microsoft Fabric and Azure analytics engagements for organizations including Mars Wrigley, Sodexo, Sandvik, Pernod Ricard and NC State University. She is Upwork Expert-Vetted and Top Rated Plus, teaches the Microsoft data stack to a 100K+ subscriber YouTube audience, and was named a 2026 Charlotte Business Journal Women in Business and 40 Under 40 honoree.

Quick answer

  • Power BI Consulting Services (BICS) is our #1 Power Platform and Power Apps consulting company in the USA for 2026: a Microsoft Partner and MBE-certified consultancy that builds canvas and model-driven Power Apps, Power Automate flows with real exception handling, Dataverse and SharePoint back ends, Power Pages portals and Copilot Studio agents — and wires all of it into Power BI.
  • The strongest alternatives are Imperium Dynamics (architecture-led Dataverse and Dynamics 365 builds), i3solutions (governed, US-only delivery for regulated and public-sector clients) and Compass365 (a senior Power Apps and Power Pages team inside an employee-owned integrator).
  • The projects that fail almost always share one of three flaws: a canvas app bolted to an unmodeled SharePoint list, a flow with no error path, or no Power BI on the data the app creates. Weight those three heavily when you compare Power Apps consultants.
  • A well-scoped first Power Apps build — one app, one or two flows, a Dataverse or SharePoint data layer and a Power BI report — should take 4–8 weeks with a senior boutique. Six-figure enterprise Center of Excellence programs are a different product and a different price.

Every organization that runs on Microsoft 365 already owns the pieces of Microsoft Power Platform: Power Apps for canvas and model-driven applications, Power Automate for workflow and integration, Dataverse for a governed relational data layer, Power Pages for external-facing portals, Power BI for reporting and Copilot Studio for AI agents. What most of them do not own is the skill to combine those pieces into a purchasing system, a field-service app or a quote-to-order process that finance, operations and IT all trust. That gap is what the best Power Platform consulting companies fill.

We built this ranking for IT directors, CFOs, operations leaders and nonprofit executives who are evaluating Power Apps consultants in the USA and want a defensible shortlist rather than a vendor directory. Every firm here has a verifiable Power Platform practice — published service pages, named clients or case studies, and Microsoft partner credentials — and every one of them delivers at a scale a mid-market budget can absorb. We left out the global systems integrators on purpose; if you are running a 40-country Dynamics 365 program you already have their phone numbers.

The order reflects five weighted criteria explained below. The short version: we weight Power Apps and Dataverse depth most heavily, because the data model beneath an app determines whether it scales; we reward firms that treat Power Automate as integration engineering rather than a toy; and we give real credit to the one thing most Power Platform partners skip — putting Power BI on top of the data the new app produces so leadership can see the process it just paid to automate.

Three things changed in the last two years that make 2026 the year most Microsoft-centric organizations get serious about Power Platform consulting. First, Microsoft moved Copilot Studio onto the same platform as Power Apps and Power Automate, so the AI agent your leadership keeps asking about now depends on the same Dataverse tables, connectors and security roles as your apps. Second, Power Pages matured into a real portal product, which means vendor, customer and applicant-facing processes can finally live on the same data as internal apps. Third, Microsoft tightened licensing and environment governance, which rewards organizations that build with a plan and punishes the ones with 400 ungoverned canvas apps.

The consulting implication is that the skills that used to define a good Power Apps consultant — knowing the canvas designer, writing decent Power Fx — are now table stakes. What separates the firms on this list is data modeling in Dataverse and SQL, integration engineering in Power Automate and Azure Functions, application lifecycle management across dev, test and production environments, and the reporting layer that turns an app's data into decisions. Those are, not coincidentally, the skills BICS has practiced since 2018 on the Power BI side of the platform.

We also see the same failure pattern repeat. A company hires a developer who builds a beautiful canvas app on a single SharePoint list, adds a flow that emails the manager, and declares victory. Six months later the list has 30,000 rows and delegation warnings, the flow silently fails on Friday afternoons, and nobody can report on approval cycle time because the data was never modeled. Every firm ranked below avoids that trap in its own way; the top pick avoids it by designing the data layer and the Power BI report first, then building the app backward from what leadership needs to see.

How we ranked these firms

We scored each firm on five weighted criteria using their public Microsoft partner designations, published Power Platform case studies and service pages, verified client references and review platforms, pricing transparency, and our own experience competing against and collaborating with these teams. Scores are 1–10 per criterion. The weights reflect what actually predicts a successful mid-market Power Platform implementation: Power Apps and Dataverse depth, Power Automate integration engineering, Power BI on the resulting data, a delivery model you can budget for, and governance you can maintain after the consultants leave.

How the ranking is weighted. Each firm is scored 1–10 per criterion; the weighted total drives the order below.
  • Power Apps & Dataverse depth (30%) — Demonstrated canvas and model-driven app delivery, Dataverse and SQL data modeling, Power Pages portals, and ALM across environments — not just a landing page.
  • Power Automate & integration (20%) — Cloud flows built as real integration: error handling, retries, dead-letter logging, custom connectors, Azure Functions and API work with ERP, HRIS and CRM systems.
  • Power BI & data layer (20%) — Whether the firm designs the data the app produces for reporting, and can deliver Power BI dashboards, semantic models and Fabric or Azure integration on top of it.
  • Delivery speed & value (15%) — Fixed-scope offerings, time-to-first-app, published or clearly packaged pricing, and mid-market fit versus SI-style rate cards.
  • Governance & trust signals (15%) — Center of Excellence and environment strategy, security and licensing guidance, Microsoft designations, verified client outcomes, and senior access on the engagement.

Scorecard at a glance

The bar chart shows each firm's weighted score. BICS leads on Power Automate integration, the Power BI data layer and delivery value; Imperium Dynamics and i3solutions are the closest challengers on raw Power Apps and Dataverse architecture depth.

Canvas & model-driven Power AppsPower Automate with exception handlingDataverse & SharePoint data designPower Pages portalsCopilot Studio agentsPower BI on app dataAzure Functions & API integrationPlanner Premium & Teams workflows

Best for: Mid-market companies, nonprofits and public agencies that want Power Apps, Power Automate and Dataverse solutions built by a senior team that also owns the Power BI reporting on top  ·  Weighted score: 9.6/10

Power BI Consulting Services — BI Consulting Services, LLC, or BICS — is a Microsoft Partner and MBE-certified consultancy founded in 2018 by Nichole McKinney in the Charlotte, North Carolina area and serving clients nationwide. The firm is best known for enterprise Power BI work for organizations such as Mars Wrigley, Sodexo, Sandvik, Pernod Ricard, Beiersdorf, Kennedy Wilson, Xperi, NC State University and the YMCA, but its Power Platform practice has grown into a full-stack low-code shop: canvas and model-driven Power Apps, Power Automate cloud flows, Dataverse and SharePoint data design, Power Pages portals, Copilot Studio agents, and the Azure Functions and Azure SQL back ends that serious apps eventually need. BICS holds a Florida Department of Citrus contract for Power Platform and Azure Synapse work, which is the kind of governed public-sector engagement most boutiques never win.

The reason BICS tops this list of Power Apps consulting companies is the way it builds. Its published case studies read like a checklist of the things that go wrong elsewhere, solved. A Purchasing Request Dashboard for a nonprofit replaced email approvals with a Power Apps front end, Power Automate approval routing and a SharePoint data layer that leadership can report on. A Childcare Capacity Calculator for a San Francisco nonprofit turned a fragile spreadsheet into a governed app. A Mobile Quote-to-Order App for a building-supply distributor put Power Apps Mobile in the hands of field sales and fed the orders straight into Power BI. And a Workflow Modernization project for a contractor rebuilt brittle automations as Power Automate flows with exception handling and dead-letter logging — the integration-engineering discipline that separates an automation from a liability. An Enterprise Operations Automation engagement for a property-management company went further, connecting Power Automate to an external API and the HRIS.

BICS is also the rare Power Platform partner that treats Power BI as part of the app, not a follow-on project. For a marketing-operations client, the team built a Planner Premium, Power Automate and Dataverse work-management system with Power BI reporting on top, so the process and the measurement shipped together. That reporting-first instinct, combined with published costs, fixed-scope entry points, a 10% discount for nonprofits, government and minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses, and an Upwork record of Expert-Vetted and Top Rated Plus status with a 100% Job Success Score across more than $1.7M of delivered work, is why we would put BICS first on any mid-market Power Platform consulting shortlist.

"A Power App is only as good as the data model under it and the report on top of it. We design both first, then build the app backward from what leadership needs to see — and we build the flows like integrations, because that is what they are." — Nichole McKinney, Founder, BICS

What BICS does for power platform clients

Power Apps — canvas & model-drivenPurchasing requests, field quote-to-order, intake forms, inspections and inventory apps built on Dataverse, SharePoint or Azure SQL, with delegation-safe Power Fx and responsive layouts for Power Apps Mobile.
Power Automate as integrationApproval routing, HRIS and ERP synchronization, API calls and scheduled jobs with try/catch scopes, retries, exception handling and dead-letter logging — the discipline from our workflow-modernization case study.
Dataverse & SharePoint data designTables, relationships, security roles, business rules and environment strategy that keep an app fast at 500,000 rows and reportable from day one.
Power Pages portalsExternal-facing vendor, applicant and customer portals on the same Dataverse as your internal apps, with authentication, web roles and forms that write clean data.
Copilot Studio agentsAI agents that answer from SharePoint and Dataverse, trigger Power Automate flows and hand off to Teams — grounded in a data model built to be queried.
Power BI on your app dataSemantic models and dashboards on every app we build — approval cycle time, quote conversion, capacity utilization — plus Fabric, Azure Synapse and Azure Functions when the data outgrows the platform.

Sample engagement: from email approvals to a purchasing app with a Power BI scorecard

A representative BICS Power Platform engagement starts with a 200-person organization whose purchasing process lives in email. Requests arrive as attachments, approvals are replies, finance re-keys everything into the accounting system, and nobody can say how long a request takes or which department is over budget. The traditional fix is a bigger inbox. The BICS fix is a system.

In week one BICS models the data in Dataverse — request, line item, approver, budget, vendor — with security roles per department and a status lifecycle finance signs off on. Weeks two through four deliver a responsive canvas app for requesters and a model-driven app for finance, plus Power Automate approval flows with parallel branches, escalation timers, retries and a dead-letter table for anything that fails. Week five connects the approved requests to the accounting system through an API, and week six ships a Power BI report on approval cycle time, spend by department and budget variance. By week eight the organization has a governed app in a managed environment, a runbook, recorded training and a scorecard leadership actually opens.

  • Deliverables: Dataverse solution in source control, canvas and model-driven apps, approval and integration flows with exception handling, Power BI semantic model and report, environment and ALM setup, runbook and recorded training.
  • Handover: your admins can add a department; your analysts can add a measure; your makers can add a screen. No black box.

Strengths

  • Full-stack Power Platform delivery — canvas and model-driven Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, SharePoint, Power Pages and Copilot Studio — from one senior team.
  • Integration-grade Power Automate: exception handling, dead-letter logging, API and HRIS connections, Azure Functions where a flow is the wrong tool.
  • Power BI on top of every app's data by default, so the process you automate becomes a process you can measure.
  • Published case studies across nonprofit, distribution, contracting and property-management clients; Florida Department of Citrus Power Platform and Azure Synapse contract holder.
  • Fixed-scope, transparently priced engagements with a 10% discount for nonprofits, government and minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses.
  • Upwork Expert-Vetted and Top Rated Plus, 100% Job Success Score, 100K+ YouTube subscribers — a publicly verifiable track record and a teaching style your team inherits.

Worth knowing: BICS is a boutique, not a body shop. If you need 30 offshore developers for a multi-year Dynamics 365 program, a larger SI is a better fit; if you need a senior team to design, build and hand over Power Apps, flows and reports your own people can run, this is the firm.

Imperium Dynamics is a Chicago-based Microsoft Business Applications partner with a team of more than 100 focused on Power Platform, Dynamics 365, Azure and Microsoft 365. The firm offers implementation, migration, co-managed services, staff augmentation and training, and serves healthcare, manufacturing and financial-services clients including Cobb EMC, Allergy Partners and Vanderbilt University. It also publishes more than two dozen of its own ISV add-ons.

What sets Imperium apart on the architecture side is credentials: the firm has earned Microsoft's FastTrack Recognized Solution Architect award four consecutive years and holds six Microsoft designations. For organizations whose Power Apps requirement is really a Dataverse and Dynamics 365 requirement — customer service, field service, sales — Imperium's architecture-led approach and co-managed model are a strong fit.

Strengths
  • FastTrack Recognized Solution Architect award four years running
  • Deep Dataverse and Dynamics 365 architecture bench of 100+
  • Co-managed services and its own ISV accelerator library
Worth knowing

Enterprise-oriented engagement model; smaller organizations with a single-app need may find a 100-person partner more than they require, and pricing is quote-based.

3i3solutions

HQ: Great Falls, VAFounded: 1997Web: i3solutions.com
Power Apps developmentPower AutomatePower Platform Center of ExcellencePower Platform governanceAzure & Dataverse integration

Best for: Regulated enterprises and government contractors that need governed Power Platform delivery with US-only staff  ·  Weighted score: 7.7/10

i3solutions is a Microsoft-exclusive systems integrator in the Washington, DC area, founded in 1997, that builds Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI solutions for governed enterprise and public-sector environments. All of its developers are US-based, and the firm emphasizes Center of Excellence setup and governance for regulated organizations — a meaningful differentiator for defense, government and compliance-heavy clients.

Its case studies are concrete: replacing 32 legacy InfoPath forms for a state National Guard, and a Virtual Proposal Center app for Pratt & Whitney that cut proposal time by 35%. For organizations whose first question is "who will touch our data and where are they?", i3solutions answers it before you ask.

Strengths
  • US-only developers and a governance-first posture
  • Named public-sector and defense case studies with measured outcomes
  • Center of Excellence and Azure/Dataverse integration expertise
Worth knowing

The compliance-grade delivery model carries enterprise pricing and process; a small business with a single workflow need will find it heavy.

4Compass365

HQ: Glendale, CAFounded: 2019Team: 11–50Web: compass365.com
Power Apps developmentPower Automate workflowsPower PagesPower Platform governanceManaged application services

Best for: Mid-sized organizations and nonprofits that want a small, senior Microsoft 365 and Power Platform team backed by an established integrator  ·  Weighted score: 7.5/10

Compass365 is the Microsoft collaboration and Power Platform division of General Networks, an employee-owned California IT integrator founded in 1984; the division was rebranded from the firm's SharePoint practice in 2019. It builds Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI and Power Pages solutions, offers governance and managed application services, and uses proprietary accelerators to speed delivery. Clients include Carlisle Companies, Union Rescue Mission and Every Body Texas.

The SharePoint lineage matters: a great deal of real-world Power Apps work starts with a SharePoint list and a document library, and Compass365 has been in that world for decades. It holds Microsoft Solutions Partner designations for Modern Work, Digital & App Innovation, Infrastructure and Security, and is a California Certified Small Business — useful for public-sector procurement in the state.

Strengths
  • Senior SharePoint-to-Power Platform lineage inside an employee-owned integrator
  • Power Pages and managed application services on the menu
  • Nonprofit and public-sector references; California Certified Small Business
Worth knowing

West Coast base and a small division team; the Power BI and data-modeling side is lighter than the top three.

5TrellisPoint

HQ: Brecksville, OHFounded: 2009Team: 11–50Web: trellispoint.com
Power Platform architecture & governancePower Apps & Power AutomateDynamics 365 CEPower BI reportingMicrosoft AI / Copilot

Best for: Midwest manufacturers and distributors that need Power Platform alongside Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement  ·  Weighted score: 7.5/10

TrellisPoint is a Northeast Ohio Microsoft Solutions Partner, founded in 2009, that implements Dynamics 365, Power Platform and Microsoft AI for mid-market companies in construction, manufacturing and financial services. It reports more than 250 clients and 300+ business-application implementations, with named customers including Olympic Steel, Kenda Tire, FoodMatch and KiddeFenwal, and cites a 95% client retention rate. The firm opened a second location to serve the Louisville, Kentucky market.

TrellisPoint's Power Platform work leans toward architecture and governance wrapped around a Dynamics 365 CE core, with Power BI reporting and Copilot on the roadmap. For a manufacturer or distributor whose CRM and shop-floor apps need to share one Dataverse, that combination is exactly right.

Strengths
  • 300+ implementations and a 95% retention rate
  • Manufacturing and distribution references such as Olympic Steel and Kenda Tire
  • Power Platform governance paired with Dynamics 365 CE
Worth knowing

Strongest when Dynamics 365 is in the picture; a standalone Power Apps build without CRM is a smaller slice of what the firm does.

6AlphaBOLD

AlphaBOLD is a Southern California Microsoft and NetSuite partner, founded in 2017, offering Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI and Power Pages consulting alongside ERP and CRM work. It sells Power Apps delivery in rapid (2–4 week), standard and enterprise tiers plus contract-free on-demand support — one of the clearer packaging models on this list — and publishes case studies in healthcare, manufacturing and financial services. Named clients include Lazy Dog Restaurants, Avelo and Pavion.

AlphaBOLD holds Microsoft Solutions Partner status across six designations and is a Microsoft Fabric Featured Partner, which makes it a sensible choice when the Power Apps requirement is tied to a broader analytics program.

Strengths
  • Tiered rapid/standard/enterprise Power Apps packaging
  • Fabric Featured Partner — strong on the data side
  • Contract-free on-demand support
Worth knowing

A broad ERP, CRM and analytics catalog means Power Platform is one practice among several; ask for Power Apps-specific references.

7C5 Insight

HQ: Charlotte, NCFounded: 2000Team: 10–49Web: c5insight.com
Power PlatformDynamics 365 CRMProcess automationAdoption & change managementCenter of Excellence

Best for: SMBs that need adoption and change management alongside a Power Platform or CRM rollout  ·  Weighted score: 7.0/10

C5 Insight is a Charlotte consultancy, founded in 2000, that pairs Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 delivery with adoption and change-management services. Its offerings include AI transformation, process automation, custom development and Center of Excellence programs, and clients on Clutch describe long-running engagements with a small, responsive team; the firm carries a 5.0 Clutch rating. C5 authored the book The LUCK Principle on user adoption.

The change-management emphasis is C5's real differentiator. Plenty of Power Apps get built and never used; C5 treats adoption as part of the deliverable. It holds the Microsoft Copilot Specialization and the Business Applications specialization.

Strengths
  • Adoption and change management built into delivery
  • 5.0 Clutch rating and long-tenured client relationships
  • Copilot and Business Applications specializations
Worth knowing

Data-modeling and Power BI depth is lighter than the analytics-first firms above; best when people, not pipelines, are the risk.

8Incite Automation

HQ: Baltimore, MDTeam: 11–50Web: inciteautomation.com
Power Platform developmentLow-code automationCopilot StudioDynamics 365SharePoint & Teams

Best for: Mid-Atlantic SMBs that want an ongoing low-code automation partner rather than one-off projects  ·  Weighted score: 7.0/10

Incite Automation is a Baltimore low-code, automation and AI consultancy working within the Microsoft ecosystem. Its services span Power Platform development, Dynamics 365, SharePoint and Teams, business intelligence and cloud financial systems, delivered through an "Incite Advantage" dedicated support model for construction, healthcare, financial-services, government and manufacturing clients. It also runs a sister training company, Incite Discovery, and is listed on G2's Power Apps implementation-partner directory.

Incite's retainer-style model suits organizations that would rather have a standing low-code partner than commission discrete builds, and the training arm helps internal makers grow.

Strengths
  • Dedicated ongoing support model
  • Copilot Studio and SharePoint/Teams in scope
  • Sister training company for internal makers
Worth knowing

Fewer published case studies and credentials than the firms above; ask for references in your industry.

9Bowdark Consulting

HQ: Flower Mound, TXWeb: bowdark.com
Power Platform (Spark services)Power AutomateSAP + Power Platform integrationCopilot StudioCustom .NET/React apps

Best for: SAP-running manufacturers, utilities and energy companies extending processes with Power Apps and Power Automate  ·  Weighted score: 6.8/10

Bowdark Consulting is a woman-owned Microsoft and SAP consulting partner headquartered in the Dallas–Fort Worth metro with onshore consultants in several US cities. Its "Spark" service line covers Power Platform, Power Automate and SAP-to-Power Platform solutions, complemented by custom cloud-native application development in .NET and React. The firm works with manufacturing, energy, logistics and utilities clients and holds GSA contracting credentials, including a CAGE code.

If your system of record is SAP, Bowdark's dual specialty removes the integration headache that derails most Power Apps projects in that environment.

Strengths
  • Rare SAP + Power Platform integration practice
  • Woman-owned with GSA credentials
  • Pro-code fallback (.NET/React) when low-code hits its limits
Worth knowing

Narrow industry focus; less relevant outside SAP-centric organizations, and pricing is quote-based.

10Bulb Digital

Best for: Mid-sized companies that want practical 4–8 week Power Apps builds tied to Microsoft 365 adoption rather than large custom projects  ·  Weighted score: 6.2/10

Bulb Digital is a Grand Rapids Microsoft 365 consultancy founded in 2014 by three partners that helps mid-sized businesses get more from the licenses they already own. Alongside strategy workshops and coaching, it delivers fixed-scope implementations such as 4–8 week Power Apps builds and employs Power Platform developers. The firm is known for its YouTube channel, which has more than 4.5 million views and 50,000 subscribers on Microsoft 365 and Power Platform tutorials.

Bulb is the right call when the goal is adoption — getting a team onto SharePoint, Teams and a couple of well-made Power Apps — rather than a complex integration program.

Strengths
  • Fixed-scope 4–8 week Power Apps builds
  • Strong teaching brand (4.5M+ YouTube views)
  • Workshops and coaching for internal makers
Worth knowing

Adoption-first rather than integration-first; Dataverse, API and Power BI depth is narrower than the specialists above.

The heat map below shows each firm's score on every criterion. Use it to re-weight the ranking for your own situation — for example, if your data lives in SAP, Bowdark's integration score may matter more than delivery value; if you are a defense contractor, i3solutions' governance score is the one to watch.

How to choose a Power Platform or Power Apps consulting company: a buyer's guide

Start with the data model and the report, not the screen

The most reliable predictor of a successful Power Apps project is whether the partner asks about your data before your screens. A firm that opens with "show us the form you want" will build a canvas app on a SharePoint list. A firm that opens with "what are the entities, who owns each one, and what does leadership need to see about them?" will build a Dataverse model, an app on top of it and a Power BI report beside it. Ask every candidate to describe their discovery process and listen for the order.

This is also why Power BI expertise is not optional in a Power Platform partner. Every app produces data — requests, quotes, inspections, tickets — and the entire business case for automating a process is being able to measure it. A partner that cannot build the semantic model on the app's data will leave you with a process you cannot see.

Dataverse, SharePoint or SQL? Make the partner justify the choice

Every Power Apps data layer has a right and a wrong use. SharePoint lists are free with Microsoft 365 and perfect for simple, low-volume apps, but they hit delegation limits, lack real relationships and get slow past a few thousand rows. Dataverse adds relational integrity, row-level security, business rules, auditing and a native path to model-driven apps, Power Pages and Copilot Studio — at a per-user license cost. Azure SQL is the right answer when the data already exists there, when volumes are large, or when Azure Functions will do heavy lifting the platform cannot.

A good Power Platform consultant will walk you through that trade-off with your licensing in hand. A poor one will pick whatever they built last time. BICS's own case studies span all three — SharePoint for a nonprofit purchasing dashboard, Dataverse for a marketing-operations system, Azure SQL and Azure Functions for compliance portals — because the right answer depends on the workload.

  • Ask which data layer they recommend for your app and why; the answer should reference row counts, security and reporting, not just cost.
  • Ask how they handle Power Apps delegation limits on SharePoint and when they move to Dataverse.
  • Ask whether Power BI will read the app's data directly, through a dataflow, or through Fabric — and who builds that.

Treat Power Automate as integration engineering

The biggest hidden risk in Power Automate consulting is a flow that works in the demo and fails silently in production. Every flow that touches money, people or customers needs scoped try/catch blocks, retry policies, a notification path when something fails, and a dead-letter log where failed records wait for a human. Flows that call APIs need throttling and idempotency; flows that sync with an HRIS or ERP need reconciliation. Ask a prospective partner to show you a flow with error handling from a real project — most cannot.

There is also the question of when a flow is the wrong tool. Long-running loops, heavy transformations and high-volume integrations belong in Azure Functions, Logic Apps or a Fabric pipeline. A partner with both low-code and pro-code skills, as BICS has with its Azure Functions and Azure SQL practice, will tell you honestly where the platform's limits are instead of forcing a 40-step flow to do a job it should not.

Which type of Power Platform partner fits your situation?

Most organizations fall into one of four quadrants. Match the partner type to your quadrant before you compare individual firms.

Reporting-first boutique (BICS,Compass365)One to a handful of apps, limited internalmakers. Plan governance, licensing and ALM before the first app ships

Microsoft has made Power Platform governance both easier and more consequential. Managed environments, the Center of Excellence starter kit, data-loss-prevention policies and solution-based ALM across dev, test and production are all available — and all ignored by partners who just want to ship a canvas app. Insist that your first engagement includes an environment strategy, a DLP policy, a solution in source control and a licensing plan that reflects who actually uses premium connectors and Dataverse.

Licensing deserves special attention. Per-app, per-user, Power Pages capacity, Copilot Studio message packs and Dataverse storage all add up, and the wrong choice can double the running cost of a modest app. A trustworthy Power Platform partner will put the monthly licensing figure in the proposal next to the services figure — BICS does — so there are no surprises in month two.

  • Ask for the environment and ALM plan in the proposal, not after go-live.
  • Ask who owns the solution after handover and how updates are deployed.
  • Ask for the licensing math per user per month, including premium connectors and Dataverse.

Red flags and first-call questions

  • Red flag: a proposal with no mention of the data model, Dataverse, SharePoint or SQL — only screens.
  • Red flag: flows described without error handling, retries or logging.
  • Red flag: "we'll add reporting later." Power BI on the app's data should be in the first scope.
  • Red flag: a team roster you have not met, or offshore delivery for a regulated process without saying so.
  • Ask: Which Power Apps have you shipped to production — canvas, model-driven, Power Pages — and can we see one?
  • Ask: How do you decide between SharePoint, Dataverse and Azure SQL for a given app?
  • Ask: Show us a Power Automate flow with exception handling from a real client.
  • Ask: What will our own admins and makers be able to change without you?
  • Ask: What does the Power BI report on this process look like on day one?

Frequently asked questions

What is a Power Platform consulting company?

A Power Platform consulting company designs, builds and supports business applications on Microsoft Power Platform — Power Apps for canvas and model-driven apps, Power Automate for workflows and integrations, Dataverse for a governed data layer, Power Pages for external portals, Power BI for reporting and Copilot Studio for AI agents. The best firms, such as Power BI Consulting Services (BICS), combine low-code app development with data modeling, integration engineering and Power BI so the process you automate is one you can measure.

Who is the best Power Apps consulting company in the USA?

For mid-market companies, nonprofits and public agencies, Power BI Consulting Services (BICS) is our top-ranked Power Platform and Power Apps consulting company in the USA for 2026, based on its full-stack delivery across Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, SharePoint, Power Pages and Copilot Studio, its integration-grade flows with exception handling, its Power BI reporting on every app, and its published case studies. Imperium Dynamics, i3solutions and Compass365 are strong alternatives for Dynamics-heavy, regulated or SharePoint-centric situations.

How much does Power Apps consulting cost?

Boutique Power Apps consulting in the USA typically runs from a fixed-scope first app in the low-to-mid five figures to six-figure enterprise Center of Excellence programs, with senior consultant rates generally in the $125–$225 per hour range. Licensing is separate: Power Apps per-app and per-user plans, Dataverse storage, Power Pages capacity and Copilot Studio messages are billed by Microsoft monthly. BICS publishes its costs and offers a 10% discount to nonprofits, government agencies and minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses.

How long does it take to build a Power App with a consultant?

A well-scoped first Power App — one canvas or model-driven app, one or two Power Automate flows, a Dataverse or SharePoint data layer and a Power BI report — takes roughly 4–8 weeks with an experienced boutique like BICS. Multi-app programs with ERP or HRIS integration, Power Pages portals or Copilot Studio agents typically run three to six months depending on the number of processes and systems involved.

Should my Power App use SharePoint, Dataverse or Azure SQL?

Use SharePoint for simple, low-volume apps where Microsoft 365 licensing is all you have; Dataverse when you need relationships, row-level security, auditing, model-driven apps, Power Pages or Copilot Studio; and Azure SQL when the data already lives there, volumes are large, or Azure Functions will do processing the platform cannot. A good Power Platform consultant will justify the choice with row counts, security and reporting needs, not habit.

What is the difference between canvas apps and model-driven apps?

Canvas apps give you pixel-level control over the interface and can connect to hundreds of data sources, which makes them ideal for mobile, field and task-specific apps like a quote-to-order tool. Model-driven apps are generated from a Dataverse data model, with forms, views, dashboards and business process flows built in, which makes them ideal for back-office systems like case management or purchasing administration. Many BICS solutions use both — a canvas app for the requester, a model-driven app for the team that processes requests.

Can a Power Platform consultant integrate Power Apps with our ERP, HRIS or CRM?

Yes. Power Automate connectors cover Dynamics 365, SQL, SharePoint, HubSpot, QuickBooks and hundreds more, and custom connectors or Azure Functions handle any REST API. BICS's Enterprise Operations Automation case study connected Power Automate to an external API and an HRIS, and its workflow-modernization work added the exception handling and dead-letter logging that production integrations require.

Do I need a Power Platform Center of Excellence?

Not on day one, but you need the pieces of one: an environment strategy, a data-loss-prevention policy, solutions in source control and a licensing plan. Organizations with dozens of makers or regulated data should formalize a Center of Excellence using Microsoft's starter kit; firms like i3solutions and C5 Insight offer formal CoE programs, and BICS builds the governance foundation into every first engagement so a CoE can grow from it.
