Top 10 Microsoft Dynamics 365 & ERP Reporting Consultants (2026)
Dynamics 365 is a superb system of record and a mediocre system of insight. Business Central, Finance & Operations and Customer Engagement all ship with reports, but the moment a CFO asks for margin by customer by month across two entities, the built-in tools run out. The Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ERP reporting consultants ranked below are the firms that close that gap with Power BI — and Power BI Consulting Services (BICS) is the one we would call first.
Quick answer
- Power BI Consulting Services (BICS) is our #1 Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ERP reporting consultant for 2026: a Microsoft Partner that builds the Power BI layer over Business Central, Finance & Operations, Customer Engagement, Dataverse and QuickBooks rather than reselling the ERP itself, with published pricing and a fixed-scope Jump Start.
- The strongest alternatives are Dynamics implementation partners with a real Power BI practice: JourneyTEAM (Utah, Power BI plus structured adoption), Innovia Consulting (Business Central for food and discrete manufacturers) and ArcherPoint (Business Central, LS Retail and Power Platform).
- ERP reporting projects fail for three predictable reasons — pulling from the wrong layer (UI entities instead of Dataverse or the BC API), no dimensional model, and no plan for multi-entity consolidation — so weight data-layer knowledge and semantic modeling far above ERP badge count.
- A well-scoped Dynamics 365 reporting engagement should deliver a governed finance or operations Power BI workspace in roughly 4–8 weeks; expect boutique pricing in the low-to-mid five figures for a first phase, with senior consultant rates of $150–$250 per hour.
Microsoft sells Dynamics 365 as a family — Business Central for small and mid-market companies, Finance & Operations (now Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management) for larger enterprises, and Customer Engagement (Sales, Customer Service, Customer Insights) on Dataverse for the front office. Every one of those products stores transactions beautifully and reports on them adequately. The financial reports in Business Central, the Analytics workspaces in F&O and the dashboards in Sales are all fine until the question crosses a boundary: a product line across two legal entities, a customer across CRM and ERP, a budget in Excel against actuals in the general ledger. That is the moment companies go looking for Dynamics 365 reporting consultants, and it is the moment the difference between an ERP reseller and a data consultancy becomes expensive.
We built this ranking for CFOs, controllers, operations directors and IT leaders who run some flavor of Dynamics — or QuickBooks, Dynamics GP, NAV or AX on the way to Dynamics — and who want a defensible shortlist of ERP reporting consultants with verifiable track records. The list mixes two kinds of firms on purpose. One kind implements Dynamics and offers Power BI as a service line; the other builds Power BI over whatever ERP you already run. Both have a place, and the buyer's guide at the end explains when to hire which.
As with every ranking we publish, we left out the global systems integrators. If you are running a multi-year F&O program across twelve countries, you already have their number. This list is for the far larger group of organizations — a $30M distributor on Business Central, a $200M manufacturer on F&O, a nonprofit moving off QuickBooks, a sales organization on Dynamics 365 Sales — that needs a Dynamics 365 Power BI consulting partner who answers the phone, quotes a fixed price and leaves behind a model your own analysts can extend.
Why Dynamics 365 and ERP reporting is a 2026 priority
Three shifts make 2026 the year ERP reporting moves from a nice-to-have to a line item. First, Microsoft retired the older export paths — Export to Data Lake and the bring-your-own-database pattern for Finance & Operations — in favor of Link to Microsoft Fabric and Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse. That means the standard way to get D365 data into Power BI at scale is now a Fabric lakehouse fed directly from Dataverse, and any partner still proposing nightly CSV extracts is building on a deprecated foundation. Second, Copilot is now inside Business Central, Finance, Sales and Power BI, and every one of those experiences depends on a well-described semantic model — the dimension names, measure descriptions and relationships a consultant builds determine whether an executive's natural-language question returns the right number or a confident wrong one.
Third, the economics of the mid-market changed. Companies that would have accepted a six-month reporting project from their ERP reseller in 2019 now expect a first working dashboard in weeks, because they have seen it happen with Power BI elsewhere in the business. The winning ERP reporting consultants in 2026 are therefore the ones fluent in both halves of the problem: the data layer of each Dynamics product (which tables, which API, which link) and the modeling layer that turns those tables into a general ledger star schema, an inventory snapshot fact, or a quote-to-cash funnel that finance actually trusts.
We also see a consistent failure pattern. A company hires its Dynamics implementation partner to "add Power BI," the partner connects Power BI Desktop to the Business Central OData pages or the Sales entities directly, and eight weeks later the reports are slow, the refresh fails on volume, and every measure is a flat SUM with no time intelligence. The firms below avoid that trap in different ways. Our #1 avoids it by treating the ERP as a source, the semantic model as the product, and the finance team as the client.
How we ranked these firms
We scored every firm on five weighted criteria, using public Microsoft partner designations, service pages and case studies, Clutch profiles and verified reviews, published rate ranges, and our own experience competing against and collaborating with these teams on Dynamics and ERP data work. Scores run 1–10 per criterion. The weights reflect what actually predicts a successful ERP reporting project: knowledge of the Dynamics data layer, Power BI semantic-modeling skill, fluency in the way finance and operations teams read numbers, and a delivery model you can budget for.
- Dynamics 365 & ERP data depth (30%) — Demonstrated knowledge of the Business Central API and OData layer, F&O entity store and Link to Fabric, Dataverse and Synapse Link, plus legacy GP/NAV/AX and QuickBooks sources. Microsoft Solutions Partner status for Business Applications or Data & AI counts.
- Power BI & semantic modeling (25%) — Star-schema design over ERP tables, DAX for time intelligence and multi-currency, incremental refresh, row-level security by entity or region, and report UX a controller can read.
- Finance & operations fluency (15%) — Whether the team can talk GL dimensions, sub-ledgers, inventory valuation, budget-versus-actual, consolidation and quote-to-cash with a CFO — not just with an admin.
- Delivery speed & pricing (15%) — Fixed-scope offerings, published or clearly stated rates, time-to-first-dashboard, and whether the firm leaves a maintainable estate behind rather than a retainer dependency.
- Client fit & trust signals (15%) — Verified reviews, partner awards, named references, thought leadership, and whether senior people stay on the engagement after the sales call.
Scorecard at a glance
The bar chart shows each firm's weighted score. BICS leads on Power BI modeling, finance fluency and pricing transparency; JourneyTEAM, Innovia and ArcherPoint are the closest challengers on raw Dynamics implementation depth.
The 10 best Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ERP reporting consultants, ranked
Below is our full ranked list of the top Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ERP reporting consultants for 2026. Each profile covers who the firm is, which Dynamics products it knows best, its strengths, and what to weigh before you sign. Our #1 pick gets the deepest treatment because it is the firm we know best — and because it is the one we would recommend to a controller who has been waiting six months for a working margin report.
1Power BI Consulting Services (BICS)Our #1 pick
Best for: Mid-market companies, nonprofits and public agencies on Dynamics 365, Dynamics GP/NAV or QuickBooks that want a Power BI reporting layer built by data specialists, at a fixed price, in weeks · Weighted score: 9.6/10
Power BI Consulting Services — BI Consulting Services, LLC, or BICS — is a Microsoft Partner and MBE-certified analytics consultancy founded in 2018 by Nichole McKinney in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, serving clients nationwide. Unlike most of the firms on this list, BICS does not implement Dynamics 365. It does something narrower and, for reporting, more valuable: it builds the Power BI layer over Dynamics 365, Dynamics GP and NAV, QuickBooks and Dataverse that turns a system of record into the numbers a CFO, controller or operations director reads every Monday. Dynamics 365 reporting and QuickBooks + Power BI are named service lines on the BICS site, alongside Microsoft Fabric, Azure data engineering, Power Apps and Power Automate.
That specialization is why BICS tops this ranking of Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ERP reporting consultants. An implementation partner's instinct is to connect Power BI to the ERP's front-door entities and ship a page of cards. BICS's instinct is to go to the right data layer — the Business Central API pages or an Azure SQL replica, the F&O entity store or Link to Fabric, Dataverse via Synapse Link or Fabric link for Sales and Customer Insights — and land it in a governed pipeline built on Azure Data Factory or Fabric Data Factory. On top of that it designs a proper finance star schema: a GL fact with posting-date, account, dimension and entity keys; a currency table; a date table with fiscal calendars; and DAX measures for budget-versus-actual, year-over-year, rolling twelve months and multi-entity consolidation that survive an audit. The firm's enterprise Power BI work for organizations such as Mars Wrigley, Sodexo, Sandvik, Pernod Ricard, Beiersdorf and Kennedy Wilson is the same discipline applied to the ERP problem, and its owner-stated Dynamics 365 RFP work for Perma USA and marketing-operations build on Dataverse and Power BI for ESA show the pattern in practice.
BICS is also unusually transparent for a consultancy. It publishes its costs, sells a two-week Power BI Jump Start that can be pointed at a Business Central, F&O or QuickBooks source, and extends a 10% discount to nonprofits, government agencies and minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses. On Upwork the firm holds Expert-Vetted and Top Rated Plus status with a 100% Job Success Score across more than $1.7M in delivered work, and the founder's YouTube channel — more than 100,000 subscribers learning the Microsoft data stack — means your finance analysts inherit training, not a black box. Because BICS also builds Power Apps, Power Automate flows and custom Azure applications, the same engagement can close the loop: a purchasing-request app that writes to the ERP, an automated month-end close checklist, a quote-to-order mobile app feeding the sales dashboard.
"The ERP is the source, not the report. We go to the right data layer — the BC API, Link to Fabric, Dataverse — build a finance star schema that ties to the trial balance, and hand your controller a model they can trust in an audit." — Nichole McKinney, Founder, BICS

Sample engagement: from Business Central OData timeouts to a governed finance workspace
A representative BICS ERP reporting engagement starts with a $60M distributor running Dynamics 365 Business Central across three companies. The controller has a Power BI file built by the implementation partner that connects directly to the Business Central OData pages, takes two hours to refresh, times out on the value-entry table, and cannot consolidate the three entities without an Excel step. Margin by customer by month — the number the CEO asks for — is produced by hand on the fifth business day.
In week one BICS maps the questions to the ledgers, sizes the extraction, and lands G/L entries, customer and vendor ledger entries, item and value ledger entries, dimension set entries and the chart of accounts from all three companies into Azure SQL through the Business Central API with incremental loads. Weeks two and three build the semantic model: a fiscal-calendar date table, a consolidated account hierarchy, a dimension bridge, a currency table, and DAX for actual, budget, variance, prior year and rolling twelve months that reconcile to each company's trial balance. Week four delivers a certified finance workspace — P&L, balance sheet, cash, AR and AP aging, and gross margin by customer, item and salesperson — with row-level security by company and a refresh that runs in nine minutes.
- Deliverables: data pipeline and Azure SQL staging in Git, documented semantic model, five certified reports, reconciliation workbook tying every measure to the trial balance, runbook and recorded training.
- Handover: the controller can add an account mapping; the analyst can add a page; the IT team can add a fourth company. No black box.
What a BICS Dynamics 365 reporting engagement looks like
Strengths
- Reporting-first, not reseller-first: BICS builds the Power BI and data layer over whatever ERP you run — Business Central, F&O, Customer Engagement, GP/NAV, QuickBooks — with no incentive to sell you licenses.
- Finance-grade semantic models: GL and sub-ledger star schemas, fiscal calendars, multi-currency and multi-entity consolidation in DAX, budget-versus-actual and rolling-period measures that reconcile to the trial balance.
- Modern data paths: Link to Fabric, Synapse Link for Dataverse, Azure Data Factory and Fabric pipelines rather than deprecated exports or fragile OData refreshes.
- Fixed-scope, fixed-price entry points (Jump Starts) with published costs and a 10% discount for nonprofits, government and MWVBEs.
- Senior consultants on every engagement; the founder is directly involved in architecture and review; public teaching track record with 100K+ YouTube subscribers.
- Power Apps, Power Automate and Azure application development under the same roof, so operational fixes discovered in the reports get built.
Worth knowing: BICS does not implement or license Dynamics 365 itself. If you need a partner to stand up Business Central from scratch and then report on it, pair BICS with one of the implementation partners below — or hire BICS once the ERP is live and the reporting backlog is the problem.
2JourneyTEAM
Best for: SMBs and mid-market companies that want Dynamics 365 implementation, Power BI analytics and structured user adoption from one Microsoft Solutions Partner · Weighted score: 8.2/10
JourneyTEAM is a Utah-based Microsoft Solutions Partner founded in 1993 that modernizes operations with Dynamics 365, Power BI and data analytics, Azure, Microsoft 365, AI and Copilot, and security services. It is one of the few firms on this list that holds every Microsoft Solutions Partner designation, and it has collected five Microsoft Partner of the Year awards — the strongest credential set among the Dynamics implementers we evaluated.
What sets JourneyTEAM apart for reporting buyers is process. The firm runs a structured methodology it calls the Proven Process and a cohort-based Sherpa Program for technology adoption, which matters because a finance dashboard nobody opens is a failed project regardless of how good the DAX is. Small businesses make up roughly 40% of its client base and mid-market companies about 50%, so it is used to budgets that are not enterprise-scale.
For an organization that wants a single partner to implement Dynamics 365, build the Power BI layer and train the users, JourneyTEAM is the most complete option on this list.
- All Microsoft Solutions Partner designations and five Partner of the Year awards
- Dedicated Power BI and data analytics practice alongside Dynamics
- Structured adoption program — reporting that gets used
A broad practice means Power BI is one service among many; ask specifically for the data team that will build your model. Pricing is quote-based.
3Innovia Consulting
Best for: Food and discrete manufacturers and distributors on Business Central (or NAV) that need Power BI reporting plus ongoing support from a dedicated BC partner · Weighted score: 7.8/10
Innovia Consulting is a Wisconsin-based, remote-first Dynamics 365 Business Central partner founded in 1984 that provides implementation, upgrades, support, training and Power BI reporting. It has been a Business Central partner since the product was Dynamics NAV, which means its consultants know the table structure — item ledger entries, value entries, G/L entries, dimension sets — that a Business Central reporting model has to be built on.
Its customer-engagement team is drawn from food manufacturing, distribution and discrete manufacturing, and the firm works with companies across North America while also supporting Microsoft 365 and Azure. For a food or discrete manufacturer whose reporting questions are about lot traceability, inventory valuation and production cost variance, Innovia's industry depth is a real advantage over a generalist.
Innovia is the right call when the ERP and the reporting should come from the same Business Central specialist and the company wants a long-term support relationship.
- Business Central depth dating back to the NAV era
- Food and discrete manufacturing vertical knowledge
- Power BI named as a service focus alongside upgrades and support
Business Central-centric; less relevant for F&O or Customer Engagement reporting. Pricing is not published.
4ArcherPoint
Best for: Mid-market retailers, consumer-products companies and manufacturers on Business Central or LS Retail that need Power Platform extensions alongside reporting · Weighted score: 7.6/10
ArcherPoint is a metro-Atlanta Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions partner founded in 2002 that implements, integrates, develops and supports Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics NAV, LS Retail and Power Platform solutions. It holds the Microsoft Solutions Partner designation for Business Applications and is an LS Retail partner, which makes it a natural fit for retailers and hospitality operators whose point-of-sale data lives in LS Central on top of Business Central.
The firm offers 24/7 support and upgrade services to mid-market companies in manufacturing, consumer products, retail, ecommerce and hospitality across North America and Europe. Its Power Platform practice is the relevant piece for reporting buyers: ArcherPoint can extend Business Central with Power Apps and Power Automate as well as surface its data in Power BI.
Choose ArcherPoint when the reporting requirement is inseparable from a retail or LS Central implementation and you want one partner across the stack.
- Solutions Partner for Business Applications and LS Retail partner
- Business Central plus Power Platform in one practice
- Round-the-clock support for operational ERP estates
Power BI is delivered as part of a broader Power Platform practice rather than as a modeling specialty; ask for finance reporting references.
5Ellipse Solutions
Best for: Manufacturers, distributors and construction firms on Dynamics AX or Finance & Operations that want an experienced boutique for upgrades and reporting · Weighted score: 7.5/10
Ellipse Solutions is a Dayton, Ohio Microsoft Dynamics AX and Dynamics 365 partner founded in 2006 with experience across every AX and Finance & Operations version. That matters for reporting because F&O data access has changed with each generation — from AX cubes to the entity store to BYOD to Link to Fabric — and a partner that has lived through all of them can tell you which path your version actually supports.
The firm splits its work evenly between ERP and CRM consulting and serves manufacturing, distribution, construction and professional-services companies. Its hourly rates fall in the $100–$149 range, which is the most transparent rate signal among the F&O-focused firms we evaluated.
Ellipse is a strong fit for a company on AX 2012 or an early F&O release that needs an upgrade and a reporting strategy planned together.
- Every AX and F&O version — rare depth on the enterprise ERP
- Balanced ERP and CRM practice
- Stated $100–$149 hourly rate range
Small team and F&O focus; Power BI modeling is delivered as part of ERP work rather than as a dedicated analytics practice.
6TrinSoft
Best for: Mid-market manufacturers wanting Dynamics 365 ERP, workflow automation and Power BI reporting from one regional partner · Weighted score: 7.2/10
TrinSoft is a Lexington, Kentucky Microsoft Dynamics partner founded in 1996 that delivers ERP and CRM implementations alongside Power BI and data solutions. Notably, Power BI accounts for 100% of its business-intelligence service focus — there is no competing BI tool in the practice — which tends to produce deeper Power BI skill than firms that spread across Tableau and Qlik as well.
The firm supplements Dynamics with proprietary workflow and document-management tools and custom applications, and its clients are mostly mid-market manufacturers along with IT, business-services and medical companies. For a manufacturer that wants approvals, document routing and reporting handled by the same team that runs the ERP, TrinSoft's combination is convenient.
It is a sensible choice for companies in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and the surrounding region that value a long-tenured local partner.
- Power BI is the firm's sole BI platform
- Workflow and document automation alongside ERP
- Nearly three decades as a Dynamics partner
Regional footprint and a small team; larger multi-entity reporting programs may exceed its bench.
7Turnkey Technologies
Best for: Mid-market manufacturing, healthcare and financial-services firms migrating from Dynamics GP to Dynamics 365 with reporting needs along the way · Weighted score: 7.0/10
Turnkey Technologies is an owner-led Microsoft Gold Partner in the St. Louis area founded in 1994 that provides project management, implementation, customization, training and support for Dynamics CRM and ERP, including Dynamics GP. Its GP depth is the reason it appears on this list: thousands of mid-market companies are still on GP, and reporting off GP's tables while planning a Business Central migration is a specific skill.
The firm serves mid-market manufacturing, retail, financial-services and healthcare organizations, and Clutch reviewers — including Medical Transportation Management (MTM, Inc.) — highlight its responsiveness and collaborative approach.
Turnkey suits an organization that wants its GP-to-D365 migration and its reporting modernization managed by the same accountable partner.
- Dynamics GP expertise plus D365 migration path
- Owner-led Gold Partner with verified reviews
- Healthcare and manufacturing references
Reporting is delivered as part of ERP projects; the firm is not positioned as a Power BI specialist.
8Kopis
Best for: Growing Southeast companies that need Dynamics ERP integrated with custom reporting and business-insight applications on Azure · Weighted score: 6.9/10
Kopis is a Greenville, South Carolina software firm founded in 1999 whose ERP practice is entirely Microsoft Dynamics, complemented by Azure, SharePoint and custom application development. It builds what it calls business-insight applications — solutions aimed at giving leaders the information they need to make proactive decisions when a growing business is hampered by its technology.
Its client list includes BMW, Proterra, Metromont and Mungo Homes, a strong Southeast manufacturing and construction roster. Projects start at $10,000, which is a helpful floor for budgeting a first reporting phase.
Kopis is the right partner when the reporting problem is really an integration problem — when the ERP needs to talk to a custom system before any dashboard makes sense.
- Custom integration and Azure development alongside Dynamics
- Named Southeast enterprise clients
- Stated $10,000 project minimum
A software firm first; Power BI semantic modeling is not a headline practice, so ask to see a delivered finance model.
9Alta Vista Technology
Best for: SMBs that want Dynamics 365 CRM or ERP plus business-intelligence reporting from a consultative partner with Midwest, Texas, Nebraska and Arizona offices · Weighted score: 6.6/10
Alta Vista Technology is a Michigan business consulting firm founded in 2014 that implements Microsoft Dynamics CRM and ERP and Sage solutions and builds business-intelligence reporting on top of them. The firm cites more than 250 years of combined team experience and operates offices in Royal Oak, Sugar Land, Lincoln and Mesa. Dynamics CRM accounts for roughly 70% of its CRM practice.
Alta Vista emphasizes discovery and strategic questioning before recommending an implementation path — a posture we like for reporting projects, where the wrong first question ("which tables?" instead of "which decisions?") is the most common source of wasted budget. Its Sage practice also makes it useful for companies weighing Sage Intacct against Business Central.
It is a reasonable pick for an SMB that wants a consultative partner and is not yet certain which ERP it should be reporting from.
- Discovery-first, consultative approach
- Dynamics and Sage under one roof for platform comparisons
- Four US offices
Small team spread across four offices; BI is a supporting practice rather than the core.
10Logan Consulting
Best for: Midwest manufacturers, distributors and service companies selecting or optimizing a Dynamics ERP — CRM, AX, GP or NAV — with IT-strategy advice alongside · Weighted score: 6.5/10
Logan Consulting is a Chicago IT services firm founded in 1992 that helps manufacturing, distribution and service companies use technology to reduce costs and increase sales. Its practice covers Microsoft Dynamics CRM, AX, GP and NAV as well as Acumatica and Sage Intacct, with cloud and IT-strategy consulting. About 25% of its clients are small businesses and 60% are mid-market, and its hourly rate sits in the $100–$149 range.
Because Logan works across several ERP platforms, it is best used as an ERP selection and optimization advisor — the firm that helps you decide whether the reporting problem is really an ERP problem — rather than as a Power BI build shop.
Pair it with a modeling specialist if the outcome you need is a governed finance dashboard.
- Multi-platform ERP perspective (Dynamics, Acumatica, Sage Intacct)
- Three decades of manufacturing and distribution work
- Stated $100–$149 hourly rate range
Power BI is not a named specialty; reporting depth is the lightest on this list.
Side-by-side comparison
The heat map below shows each firm's score on every criterion. Use it to re-weight the ranking for your own situation — if you are on Dynamics AX and need an upgrade before any reporting, Ellipse's F&O depth may matter more to you than Power BI modeling; if the ERP is already live and the backlog is reports, weight modeling and finance fluency.

How to choose a Dynamics 365 or ERP reporting consultant: a buyer's guide
Decide whether you need an implementer or a reporting specialist
The firms on this list split into two camps. Dynamics implementation partners — JourneyTEAM, Innovia, ArcherPoint, Ellipse, TrinSoft, Turnkey — sell and configure the ERP and offer Power BI as an additional service. Reporting specialists like BICS do not sell the ERP; they build the data pipeline and Power BI layer over whichever system you already run. If your ERP is not yet live, you need an implementer, and you should ask hard questions about their Power BI bench. If the ERP is live and the problem is that finance still closes in Excel, a reporting specialist will get you to a trusted dashboard faster and will not be tempted to solve reporting gaps with more ERP customization.
The two are not mutually exclusive. A common and effective pattern is an implementer for the ERP go-live and a Dynamics 365 Power BI consulting specialist for the reporting phase that starts a month or two later, once real transactions exist to model.
Ask which data layer they will pull from — the answer tells you everything
Every Dynamics product has a front door and a back door for data, and the wrong choice is the single most common cause of slow, fragile ERP reporting. For Business Central, connecting Power BI directly to OData web services works for a demo and collapses on a million value-entry rows; the durable options are the Business Central API v2 pages with incremental refresh, or an Azure SQL or Fabric replica. For Finance & Operations, the entity store and the deprecated Export to Data Lake are giving way to Link to Microsoft Fabric, which lands F&O tables in OneLake with no ETL. For Customer Engagement on Dataverse — Sales, Customer Service, Customer Insights — Synapse Link and the Fabric link do the same job, and Power BI reads the results through Direct Lake.
Ask each candidate which of these paths they would use for your version and why. A firm that answers "we'll connect Power BI to the entities" without qualification is going to build you the two-hour refresh.
- Business Central: API pages or Azure SQL/Fabric replica, never raw OData for ledgers.
- Finance & Operations: Link to Fabric or Synapse Link; avoid new BYOD builds.
- Dataverse (Sales, Customer Insights): Synapse Link or Fabric link, Direct Lake models.
- Dynamics GP, NAV, AX, QuickBooks: SQL or API extraction through Azure Data Factory with logging and exception handling.
Insist on a finance-grade semantic model
ERP data is dimensional by nature — accounts, dimensions, entities, dates, currencies — and a reporting partner who does not build a star schema is leaving money on the table. Look for a general-ledger fact table keyed to a fiscal-calendar date table, an account hierarchy that supports both the statutory chart and a management view, a bridge for dimension sets, a currency table for multi-currency consolidation, and DAX for budget-versus-actual, prior-year, rolling-twelve and year-to-date that a controller can reconcile to the trial balance. Operations models need the same rigor: an inventory snapshot fact, an order-line fact with quote-to-cash stages, and slowly changing dimensions for customers and items.
The tell is reconciliation. The best ERP reporting consultants deliver a workbook that ties every headline measure back to the ERP's own financial statements. If a candidate cannot describe how they prove the dashboard matches the books, keep looking.
Which type of Dynamics reporting partner fits your situation?
Most organizations fall into one of four quadrants. Match the partner type to your quadrant before you compare individual firms.
Understand the pricing model before the scope
Dynamics reporting is sold three ways: hourly time-and-materials (most implementers, typically $100–$250 per hour depending on seniority), fixed-scope packages (workshops, Jump Starts, first-phase dashboards), and retainers or managed services. For a first project a fixed-scope first phase is almost always right: it forces the partner to name the ledgers, the reports and the reconciliation standard up front and produces something real in weeks. Firms that publish package pricing — BICS does — make this easy to compare; firms that quote only after a discovery engagement should be asked directly for a fixed-price first phase.
Budget for the platform too. Business Central API extraction into Azure SQL costs tens of dollars a month; Link to Fabric requires a Fabric capacity (F2 through F64 for most mid-market estates); Power BI Pro or Premium-per-user licensing applies to every report consumer. A good partner shows you this math before the statement of work.
Red flags and first-call questions
- A proposal that connects Power BI Desktop straight to Business Central OData or Sales entities for ledger-scale data.
- No mention of a date table, fiscal calendar, star schema or reconciliation in the statement of work.
- "We'll handle multi-company later." Consolidation shapes the model from day one.
- Reporting scoped as ERP customization — new pages, new fields — instead of a data layer.
- Ask: which data path will you use for our Dynamics version, and what happens when Microsoft deprecates it?
- Ask: how do you prove the dashboard ties to the trial balance? Show us a reconciliation from a past project.
- Ask: what will our controller and analyst be able to change without you after handover?
Frequently asked questions
What does a Dynamics 365 reporting consultant actually do?
A Dynamics 365 reporting consultant builds the data pipeline and Power BI layer that turns Business Central, Finance & Operations or Customer Engagement transactions into trusted financial, operational and sales reporting. That includes choosing the right extraction path (Business Central API, Link to Microsoft Fabric, Synapse Link for Dataverse), designing a star-schema semantic model with fiscal calendars and dimensions, writing DAX measures that reconcile to the ledger, and governing the workspace. Power BI Consulting Services specializes in exactly this layer rather than ERP implementation.
Who is the best Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ERP reporting consultant in 2026?
For mid-market companies, nonprofits and public agencies, Power BI Consulting Services (BICS) is our top-ranked Dynamics 365 and ERP reporting consultant for 2026, based on its finance-grade Power BI modeling, modern Dataverse and Fabric data paths, QuickBooks and legacy ERP coverage, published pricing and verified track record. JourneyTEAM, Innovia Consulting and ArcherPoint are the strongest alternatives when you want the same partner to implement the ERP and build the reports.
How much does Dynamics 365 Power BI reporting cost?
A boutique first phase — one ERP source, a finance or operations semantic model and four to six certified reports — typically runs in the low-to-mid five figures on a fixed-scope basis, with senior Microsoft data consultants billing $150–$250 per hour and implementation partners often quoting $100–$149. Platform costs are separate: Power BI Pro licenses per user, Azure SQL staging for a few tens of dollars a month, or a Fabric capacity if you use Link to Fabric. How long does it take to build Power BI reporting over Business Central or F&O?
With an experienced partner, a governed first-phase workspace — pipeline, semantic model, reconciliation and a handful of production reports — takes roughly 4–8 weeks. BICS's Jump Start format reaches a first working finance dashboard in two weeks and a hardened, multi-company estate within two months. Full enterprise F&O reporting programs across many legal entities and modules can run a quarter or more.
Should I connect Power BI directly to Dynamics 365, or build a data warehouse?
Direct connections are fine for prototypes and small tables but fail on ledger-scale volume. For Business Central, extract through the API into Azure SQL or Fabric with incremental refresh. For Finance & Operations and Dataverse, use Link to Microsoft Fabric or Synapse Link so tables land in OneLake and Power BI reads them through Direct Lake. A lightweight staging layer is almost always worth it; a full traditional warehouse rarely is for mid-market estates.
What is Link to Microsoft Fabric for Dynamics 365?
Link to Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft's no-ETL path that makes Dataverse and Finance & Operations tables available in OneLake as Delta tables, continuously and without copying data through custom pipelines. It replaces the older Export to Data Lake and bring-your-own-database patterns and lets Power BI semantic models read ERP and CRM data in Direct Lake mode. It is the recommended foundation for new Dynamics 365 reporting on Fabric.
Can the same consultant report on QuickBooks and Dynamics 365?
Yes, and it matters for organizations mid-migration or running QuickBooks in a subsidiary. Power BI Consulting Services offers QuickBooks + Power BI as a named service alongside Dynamics 365 reporting, so a single fiscal-calendar model can consolidate a QuickBooks entity with Business Central entities during and after the transition.
How does Copilot change Dynamics 365 reporting?
Copilot in Power BI, Business Central and Dynamics 365 Sales answers natural-language questions using the semantic model underneath — so table names, measure descriptions, relationships and synonyms directly determine answer quality. A consultant who builds a clean, documented star schema over your ERP data is building the foundation Copilot needs; one who ships flat tables with cryptic ERP field names is guaranteeing confident wrong answers.
